Trunk Lid Identification
Tomorrow, at 9:00 am sharp, the grandson of a local Model A parts "accumulator" will open the barn and sheds of his late grandfather to those of us in our club. I've not had the chance to see what's available, but the older members of our club who knew the grandfather report that the accumulation is "extensive."
Having only owned a 1930 and 1931 Model A, my question is: "How does one tell the difference between a 1928-1929 and a 1930-1931 Model A trunk lid?" Thanks in advance for any advice from Ford Barners.

Re: Trunk Lid Identification
Indeed, there it is: "The rumble lids are different from 28-29 to 30-31 see the pictures that Marco Tahtaras made up to illustrate the differences. They are physically the same dimensions, the problem is with how the gutter area had to be formed. The 28-29 lids latched up inside the gutter area and the handle is closer to the edge. They also have a bulged out area in the inner lid structure at the upper front center area which requires a dip in the gutter channel. This was changed for 30-31 and the catch was moved to the back edge of the gutter and the gutter no longer had this dip. What this means is you can not use a 28-29 lid on a 30-31 body. But you can go the other way, in fact there is a service bulletin explaining how to mount the later replacement lid on the earlier cars." [From http://home.comcast.net/~68c/Rumblelid.htm]
Worse yet, once I saw the photos, I realized I had read the thread before. Should have searched the forum before posting. Sad... Thank you for the quick response and pointing to the needed information.

Re: Trunk Lid Identification
Well, there was a nice clean 1930-31 rumble seat lid at the sale. No rust, hardly a dent - just what I wanted.
Another club member got it first...

Re: Trunk Lid Identification
Sorry to hear you missed out, hopefully he didn't get too good a deal! There didn't happen to be any widebed rear fenders in those buildings did there??
