Default Engine Paint Color (redux)

There have been a couple of threads addressing Model A engine paint, several of which suggest using Rust-Oleum paints to mix an “acceptable” color. Needing some paint to match my 34+ year old engine paint color (and not wanting to paint the entire engine) I mixed several “formulas” using Rust-Oleum Gloss Hunter Green (#7738), Gloss Black (#7779), Gloss Royal Blue (#7727) and/or Gloss White (#7792).

The results are shown in the first thumbnail below.

Should anyone question the scientific validity of this process, the highly accurate mixing setup (calibrated 8d nails, small screwdriver, etc.) is shown in the second thumbnail.

Now, some comments:

1. Obviously, I was not worried about the glossiness of the paint scheme. If this is an issue, then you might try substituting flat black and/or flat white.

2. The numbers appearing below each color swatch represents the ratio of green:black:blue:white. For example, in the last row, color 3212 represents 3 parts green + 2 parts black + 1 part blue + 2 parts white.

3. Inasmuch as different video monitors display colors differently, the first row shows the “pure” colors directly out of the Rust-Oleum can.

Napa Skip,

Good information, I have always had excellent results using Rustoleum products.
I will have to try your formula as I already have about half of the ingredients.

Rustoleum is locally available, inexpensive, provides a terrific finish and no shipping of Hazardous Materials.

45 F in interior Alaska today and the snow is melting fast, plus I have the Phaeton at work with me today.

It's two green, one black, and one blue. No white.
