Default Clutch restauration, some questions

Hello and good day each other.

I have 4 questions about the restoration of the clutch.

1) The pressure plate was already turned off and honed early lathe. Does anyone know the given minimum / wear measure (thicknes)?
I measure 14.1 mm.

2) How thick is the pressure disc plate new?

3) In the pressure plate mechanic I discover different compression springs: red, green, brown; shorter and longer.

Does the color coding have a meaning (spring tension)?

What is the correct spring length? I measure 56 mm and 51 mm.

4) Under the compression springs in the little pans are round inserts made of plastic. They are very hard and brittle. Is that correct?

I thank you in advance!

Never had one apart. I can’t offer much advice other than have you searched here for past posts on the subject?

when i had mine apart the fingers were pretty worn and the fly wheel was very cracked on the surface. the old style clutch plate looked like new. I let it be. And adjusted it and run it. Sounds like you need a new pressure plate. the machineing to the one you have was probably a stop gap when replacement was no available.

i have a book---clutches,transmissions from ford printed in 1947
.015 max clearance between drive lug and plate (on last page it gives .005-.015)

on the last page, specifications page --spring pressure at 1-9/16
grey---115-120 lbs ---11" clutch
blue 125-135 ---10' clutch
brown 147-153 9" clutch

then back in the text it gives-- spring load (pound feet) ---i
B-7563 110-120
BB-7563-B 110-130
74-7563 (this is 60hp, it's built about the same) 135-140
there is no mention of distance
if the plate itself won't clean up of .031 from original size replace it (no mention of original size), thought there is a note---if refaces over .020 add shims of the same amount under spring seat

set fingers at 3/4", .340 spacer or new clutch disc

For the A I am still using the one that came with the car untouched, on the Traction I made the springs into groups that balanced the pressure, made insulating washers out of surplus epoxy circuit boards (I was getting paid to peel the gold off) ---here traction parts are hard to get

Hello everybody,

today I received nice parts from Bratton's. Also the clutch friction disk. But I have just seen that that is 'Made in China'.
I am sceptical.

Does anyone have experience with this component?

Thanks for good hints! ---

Guten Abend Kurt, thank you so much for your helpin' large listing for clutch-springs!

The one on the left is a good one because it has reinforcing tangs to keep the springs secure. I have one on my car.

The disc from Bratton's is the one I use. It has the tabs that retain the springs. The disc other vendors sell don't have the tabs.

Probably I have misunderstood something: The hardest of the 5 different pressure springs has a length of 2.3 inches. When I press these together on 1 9/16" like described above, I measure a pressure of 85 lbs.

Werner, I think your putting your energy where your likely to end up with trouble. That is one assembly, that in my opinion is better left with the manufacturer. I would never attempt to rebuild a pressure plate or disc.

If they are built, they can be rebuilt. It might take equipment knowledge and patience that not all of us have but they are rebuilt everyday for trucks etc.

Russ, what you say is right. But I have to look at it from the other side of the globe. When I buy a restored pressure plate in the USA, I have to return the old one. Overall, the cost of duty + 2 X freight is painfully high.

I do not want to include a reproduction from China.

Therefore, I try to restore the existing pressure plate.

Werner,

If I can find the emails I can put you in contact with a spring manufacturer in Kentucky that makes the correct length and compression springs (pressure wise). If you want just shoot me a PM.

In your country there must be a shop that repairs clutches. It is hard to believe there is not one.

Werner, the company I buy my clutch packages from don't need your core. Fort Wayne Clutch. Maybe I can help you. If you do buy from the US, and need a core pressure plate, I could send one for you perhaps. I have one I will never use.

Good morning,

I think I can restore the clutch cage by myself. The pressure plate I can extern turn off at 1/128 ". I can round off the scoring finger levers myself. I have the finger-gauge and a dial gauge, also, I can measure the compressive force of the pressure springs.

It is not a big problem to buy suitable pressure springs here. But my problem is that I do not know which spring is the right one, because the built-out have five different dimensiones!

It is not certain, but as the balancing holes look like, the clutch plate could have been balanced as a group.

Since it is a hobby it is good that you like to do your own work. I try to do everything I can by myself and only send out work I know I can not do. You are an inspiration to many I hope. Thank you.

Hallo und guten Abend!

The fineley gound clutch pressuere plate is just being revised. I found now suitable industrial springs. All movable joints have been coated with PTFE sliding varnish.

The assembly is a 96 parts puzzle game for four hands!
