Default 1930 CCPU Horn Rod Replacement Question

I have to replace my horn rod on my 1930 CCPU. In reading the Les Andrews book it seems like it's pretty involved to take all the steering apart to pull the steering column through the drivers door.

My question is, would it be easier on a CCPU to just take the cab off the frame?

This is going to be a fall/winter project so I'm looking for ideas.
Thanks fellas for all your help!! Great bunch of guys here on the Ford Barn!

NO NO NO. Do a search, there are other ways. You may have to take the pedals and strg wheel off but I believe it can be removed by easing it out thru the bottom.
Could you not repair per the inst in your previous thread??

Paul,
No the rod is definitely bent. I will search and see if it can be removed from the bottom. However, everything I've read so far says on a CCPU you have to remove the steering wheel. If you have any other info, please forward it to me.

Remove the wheel, disc the strg box from the frame and lower the box to the floor.
Others will chime in I'm sure.

if all you are doing is replacing the horn rod you should be able to disconnect the light switch and spider from the bottom end, remove the floorboards and pedals and tank mount, unbolt the steering box from the frame, and lower the box to the floor and swing the steering wheel towards the open door so the the rod has a path to exit the cab and pull the rod out. no need to remove the steering wheel.

I removed mine last week, Larry has it correct , you will have to remove starter to get steering box out of frame but you want have to move paddles just floor board. Grease through out bearing while it is easy. It should slide out in cab. Also ears on horn/light switch well have to be bent down to remove horn button. Steering box slides under generator. not the best speller.
Thanks
Dana

Larry,
Thanks for the input!! Sounds MUCH less complicated than the Les Andrews version! I will follow your directions when I'm ready to do it. Is there an easy way to identify which horn rod you have as I see several different ones in the catalog? Is it best just to remove the old one and measure it?
Thanks
Scott

Scott,
I used Les Andrews instructions and it was involved, but successful. I have a good horn rod (45 3/4") that you can have if you'll pay the shipping.
