F-100 steering box conversion

Looking for an F-100 steering box conversion for a 28/29 sedan.
I know there was fellow in Calif. that was selling those but not sure whether he is still doing that.

Yes he is. His name is Randy Gross you will find him in the Swap meet section, he lists brake drums and shoes and also F-100 steering. A good guy to work with.

I had Randy do my brakes and he was great to deal with. he took the time to explain what needed to done and my brakes work flawlessly. I would definitely use him for a steering upgrade.

I tried one and did not like it. I rebuilt my original and used a shortened pitman arm.

I'm not knocking Randy Gross and I'm sure the up dated steering gear he builds is first rate. However, if you rebuild your original (2-tooth or 7-tooth)
steering gear correctly. It will be just fine, maybe not as smooth & easy as your new auto. But, heck it is a 90 year old car! I'm the first person to admit
that I am no mechanic. Yet, I have rebuilt one 7-tooth and two 2-tooth "A" steering gears and they all turned out good. Take your time and always use new bearings ,bushings, sector shafts and worm gears. I also use the shortened pit-man arms. Good luck.

PS: Never try and turn your steering wheel without the car moving or the front end jacked up. It is very hard on your steering gear.

The more senior of us find the Model A's steering to be hard on our arms and shoulders. So there is a need to make the steering easier.

The F100 boxes use the roller sector shaft like mid 30's -on vehicles. Easier to steer but sometimes difficult to adjust out the free play. Btw, a shortened pitman arm on a stock gear most often needs an adjustable drag link (see other threads) to adjust for zero freeplay at the gear centered and wheels straight ahead.

Wasn't one of the EZ Steer by john kovar was it.

Hats off to Randy. A true example of a great vendor.
He didn't even question how long he had it.
I purchased brake drums, shoes, a hub, bearings etc from Randy. Everything was fine.
