Never could find that wiggling pin for the wobbleing shaft that was going bad in my old 41 Ford. Nor could I find a set of hydralic gas tank levelers to improve my mileage. And Bill, learned about those "CABLE STRETCHERS" in 66 when I started my phone work at GTE.

I might need to convert to juice brakes just so I can buy those cross-drilled brake hoses

You got to love having fun with the uninformed and gullible new guys. As a pilot and former aircraft fueler and baggage handler - its always a good sport to send the new guys on an errand to find some "prop wash."

I was fixing bale feeders and I was getting annoyed by my cousin questions, so I sent him up town to get a bolt stretcher!

How about "nut reducers". I have a box of 1/2"-13 nuts but I need 3/8"-16 so I'll use a 1/2"x 3/8"reducer in the 1/2" nuts.

When you are at the airport don't forget to pick up 50' of Flight Line and a gallon of Prop Wash.

In almost any field the nube can expect to be hazed. When I started work at Connecticut Air Service I was sent to find a bucket of prop wash, etc. Worst than that, I was told to blow through a "stuck" venturi on the bottom on the fuselage under the cockpit to free it. After noticing everyone laughing I learned that the venturi provided a vacuum for the pilot relief tube! Guess what job I had the next new guy do on his first day!

After I "paid my dues" it turned out to be a great job! I got to start and taxi all the flight school's aircraft from the flight line down to the hanger to put them in for the night; I learned how to reverse with mirrors only driving the fuel truck; and I got to drive a pay-loader with wheels bigger than me to get rid of snow. I bought my first model A (a 1930 coupe with duel side mount spares) from Walt Luckner a Connecticut Air Service senior mechanic for $200.

Pics1-2: The classic 1940s Conn. Air Hanger. It burned down a few years ago. But I resurrected it when I built out all the structures for Danbury Air Port in Xplane
Pics 3-4: My old 30 coupe (wish I still had it!). Notice the regular plates rather than antique plates. It was a great daily driver!

I have a set of the left hand drill bits. They help get broken screws and bolts out. When I was in the USAF, we sent new guys to supply to get a spool of flight line.

I have a special spanner that is both metric AND imperial. I know it is, it says so right there on the side. Put it down one way and it is an 8" shifter, put it down the other way up and it is a 200mm shifter!!!

A couple years ago i replaced my headlights with the new tech Dark Sucker bulbs. This is a technology newly discovered that has the potential to obsolete the common light emitting bulbs. In stead they suck dark!! When they are nearing the ind of their life and get nearly full of dark you will be alerted by the dark that collects inside the new type bulbs. I find this very helpful as When I do my pretrip check i just can see if my headlamps are indicating they are close to getting too much dark in them. If so I just replace them before i drive at night. I never have to worry about not seeing case of dark sucker failure.

Can someone help me find the correct tool to adjust the advance and retard timing on my three hole water pump. If it helps, it is fitted to an early 28 V8 engine with 60 thou oversized bore. Thanks in advance for all your help.
If someone has one they wish to swap for a 2 pound hammer used for adjusting points, I do have a couple available and would gladly help you out.

At work we used to ask the building maintenance guys to save the burned out light bulbs for the dark room (for developing photos).

I worked in the radio shop in 1979 and 80, at that airport.

When I was a young apprentice mechanic the tricks used to include sending the apprentices to the tool stores for items such as a "long wait" or a "box of sparks"

Those were the days, I think what I went through as an apprentice is now banned by the Geneva convention!!
