Default stripped nut

One of the little nuts that holds the dash panel is stripped. Any ideas on a fix? Should I go to a 12x24 machine screw? I think the orginal is a 10x32.

Put a small piece of wire through the hole in the nut and then screw it bask on. Temporary fix, but it usually works.

Or you could just re-tap it.

Good to hear you found a solution.

I know you fixed it. A handy tool is the thread repair tap and die set. It cleans the threads without taking much metal off. After I bought a set, I wondered how I managed without it.

Another idea is to use a small amount of 0000 steel wool in the hole with a toothpick and then reuse the original screw. I actually saw a dash screw attached using a wing nut. To access the wig nut you swing out the windshield. Kinda "screwy" but effective.

Thanks, I will remember the steel wool the next time.
