Default Why I avoid car dealers

http://longisland.craigslist.org/cto/5457754430.html

Ran across this nice looking PU & noticed in the pics what appeared to be a fresh 2 x 4 in place of the L rear frame member under the box w/ new hdwr..
Sent the seller a question about it just out of curiousity & his reply was ,
" Oh , I didn't notice that " ISLANDMOTORCARS.NET
He could have at least painted it black .

Check the steering box, may be saw dust to stop the leakage.

If you are looking at the wood between the frame and box on either
side that is the way they were made.

It is grossly unfair to tar all dealers with the same brush. Some dealers are very honest and professional. Granted some are unethical. Now that you find out that you were in error you may want to apologize or delete the post. Wayne[/B]

I'm in the process of replacing the timber (very soft, not very good wood) on my '30 CCPU with 50X100mm box section steel tubing because I need to put a tow bar on the vehicle. The steel will extend right to the back of the box. Maybe I should paint the steel with a fake wood grain.

Make sure you get the end grain done correctly.

Bob C,
Why was the block of wood on only one side?

Marty has a good point. What is correct? Looks like steel mount on the right side holding the box on the frame and the wood on the left. Please advise. Any one have a picture of the correct setup?

Look close,it's on both sides.I think the flash on the camera lights the left one up so it looks lighter. When you see the shiny heads of the carriage bolts on the right, mirror image of the left, the shape of the wood will jump out at you.

Not trying to be funny, but ................

Sincerely hope this helps any "depressed" Model A Purchaser ..............

If anyone ever buys an 80+ year old Model A, and "only" one thing is wrong with it, "like one (1) unpainted 2 x 4" ...........

Just buy it and consider yourself the luckiest Model A owner in the entire World.

Just one opinion about human classification and human categories:

Often, it appears to be human nature where we all tend to place humans into different classifications and categories.

However, later in life ...... most of us learn that a person with a specific title, a uniform, a particular nationality, whether a minister, a salesman, or whatever; and whether in the U.S. or abroad, this person is really an unclassified human until we meet them face to face in person.

Most of us learned at a young age that what is actually "inside" one's suit or one's uniform is all that matters.

Usually the cloth covering a guys behind really means nothing until we meet the person face to face and experience what he is like.

Now the bottom line that everyone is waiting for is:

After we meet this person, if he is selling a used cars or an old horse, we have to watch him like a hawk.

Mr. Y is most observant ........ definitely a keen and helpful gentleman to bring along if one is buying any Model A.

If one considers the "Sellers" reply in the first post to the buyer's emailed 2 x 4 question:

" Oh , I didn't notice that " .......... and in reading further into the Seller's ad:

" NEEDS NOTHING AND LOT'S OF FUN TO DRIVE ."

Everyone gets only three(3) guesses as to the Seller's response if someone were to ask the Seller:

Where are the shocks?

well now, seems to be that sometimes people make assumptions w/o all of the facts, so I'll just hazard a comment.

Price doesn't seem out of line to me based on what it costs to even get an old A running, the (dreaded car dealer) probably doesn't know much about A's, he's probably selling it for someone, or got it from an estate, his ad says:

"RUNS AND LOOKS GREAT . 3 SPEED , 4 CYLINDER AND RESTORED BACK IN THE 90'S . RECENT TUNE UP ...BRAKES, NEEDS NOTHING AND LOT'S OF FUN TO DRIVE. ACCEPTING BEST OFFER THIS WEEK ! "

Sounds like truth in advertising to me assuming you could drive it away.

MAKE an offer!

Ted

FWIW: Ted's comment above is probably just about right.

For example, in 1969 from an unknown Seller, I bought (2) rabbit hounds after seeing his short ad in the newspaper.

On the way home I stopped by my regular barber to get a haircut who asked who did I buy them from.

He immediately advised to go get my money back because the Seller was a notorious devious Horse Trader ...... e.g., he sold one horse that when the buyer was going home the horse ran into a tree ...... he went right back to the Seller to get his money back ..... but was informed by the Seller that his horse was not blind ..... his horse just did not give a damn.

Well, in my case, both rabbit hounds turned out to be outstanding ....... seems life is just one gamble after another ......
