Petehoovie, your photographed Mossie is the only flying example in the world, rebuilt here in NZ, photographed at its debut airshow in my hometown of Masterton, see here;

Cannot find the sound of two Merlins, but here is the sound of one in a Spitfire.

Warning: There is profanity. Do not watch if you are adverse to strong language.

Don't forget the role Packard played in improving the Merlin engine for the Mustang....

Well...……….not quite! There are four currently FLYING, with several other non-flyables on display around the world. Two more are currently known to be under restoration to flyable status. The four flyers are:

Charles Somers' FB.VI variant, N474PZ

The Military Aviation Museum's FB.26 variant in Virginia Beach

The Flying Heritage Museum's T.III variant in Everett, Wash.

Robert Jens' B.35 variant in Vancouver, British Columbia

Here's the sound of your two Merlins on the Auckland Mossie….click the link below! DD

Here is a good collection of Merlins I have been inside that Lancaster at a visit it did to our museum watched it take off pretty cool. That mosquito in Pete's post is kept with that Lancaster in Ontario.. Lots of Merlins in this video. All in Canada. (Some mosquitoes were made in Canada)

I have been privileged to see both Bob Jens' and the FHCAM Mosquitos fly... beautiful airplanes.

Pity that the FHCAM is mothballing all of their aircraft for long term storage or ?

I know, I KNOW! And I am sorry....I have a hard time keeping those straight. Again, my most-sincere apologies! The term I was looking for was "Mossie", an affectionate nickname given the Mosquito by RAF blokes during The War. DD
