Default 1947 59Ab into model a

Im putting a 1947 59 AB into a 29 model a. Problem I am having is the crank pulley. It is a double pulley and the front pulley is hitting the cross member. I am in mock up so nothing is welded in place. What am I missing? Is there another style of pulley I need? I was going to use a fan mounted generator/alternator which would eliminate the need for the front pulley. Any help is appreciated
Thanks Tom B

The first generation flathead V8's only used one v belt to run water pumps, and fan/generator. Your engine is a second generation V8 with offset water pumps and generator, right? So even if you cut the front pulley off and just ran one v belt, there would be no way to run your water pumps. Or, you could butcher your fire wall to make room, but I wouldn't do that. This gets to be a moral issue, because this forum is for stock Model A's. A first generation V8 would tuck in nicely, or a 60 hp V8 as well.

Hey Tom,
As said this site is MOSTLY for restoration of As(), so don't take this as brushing you aside, but to get you proper and lots of assistance with you project !

Go over to H.A.M.B. and click on hamb, then click on traditional hot rods. That will take you to tons of knowledgeable guys who have been there and done that ! I'm thinking that you have never done this mod before, so you will ,no doubt, have a number of questions about your installation. Not only are lots of these guys experienced, but willing to share their knowledge. Good luck.

I agree ,introduce yourself at the HAMB. Also the early V8 Fordbarn, many AV8 s there. I would suggest you get the book by Vern Tardel and Mike Bishop,it will answer many questions for you.

Hey Tom,
See you over there , eh !

BTW, only difference between your ride and mine (right now, that is), is that I have a warmed up '32 B engine, not 59AB !

You will most likely end up with what I have...maybe with expensive paint, that is, with '39 top loader; QC rear; dropped axle and Lincoln brake system. Other than that, she could be returned to stock in a days time ! Good luck

Did you trim the crossmember like in the bishop/tardel book?
You probably need to use truck pumps and a single belt.
