Carpenter Headlight Switch For '40
I bought a new repo headlight switch for my 40 Deluxe from Dennis Carpenter. I also ordered a new knob which came with a short shaft about 1 1/2" long. Problem is, the shaft doesn't fit the switch. The shaft in my old one doesn't fit the new switch either. Anybody else have this problem with Carpenter's headlight switches?

My first replacement switch was a dud. I had to get a second. It was a pain getting the shaft into either one. I think I jabbed the paperclip into my hand a couple times trying to hold the spring loaded piece down while inserting the shaft. Both mine were Vintique brand.

Re: Carpenter Headlight Switch For '40
I bought a headlight switch for my '54 Ranch Wagon from Shoe Box Central. It was a Carpenter switch and it was defective. The rheostat wire wasn't seated correctly so the knob wouldn't turn completely and the knob shaft wouldn't stay locked into the switch. Shoe Box immediately sent a replacement no questions asked and a return sticker to send the defective on back. The replacement rheostat is fine but the shaft took a bit to lock in. Hopefully it will remain in place. Not the best quality. I expected more from Carpenter but it is what it is.

Re: Carpenter Headlight Switch For '40
I have plenty of original rebuilt ones. I got into that years ago before they reproduced them and then quit. Still have some if needed. Ready to install if I can find them
