Default My 34 Roadster Windshield Pivot Stud was all Pitted So I Made A New One

The windshield Pivot Stud on my 34 Ford Roadster was all pitted up, slightly bent, and the threads were bad. So I decided to make a new one. Why did I want to make my own? And to also make all the other parts I need. Because no one is willing to go the distance and make the parts identical and correct to the original. But I am willing. And as you know guys have complained for years about the quality of repro parts. So if you look at the first 2 photos you can see the original stud and how bad it was. The next photos show the stud I made. It is identical but nice and fresh and new. Notice the taper at the flats. This is needed so that it will fit into the cone. Was this easy to make. No it was not. What a challenge. Two holding fixtures had to be made to it can be held in the lathe and milling machine. A special block had to be made to be able to keep the flats perfect on all four sides. In a few weeks I will photograph the making of a second one to document how it was done. Please see all the photos below. This part also fits the Phaeton and may also fit the 1935 1936 Roadster and phaeton as well.

Nice work, Bill. Some tricky machine work there.

You sir are a man after my heart ! How many times I have remarked if a person is going to all the trouble to tool up to make a part, why stop half way and say good enough when a little more effort would get it right and as original. You are to be commended and I hope others appreciate what you do !

Sure enjoy reading about the parts you make and seeing the skill involved.

They are the same for phaetons and roadsters through the '36 model year.
