Default Will a 390 expansion tank fit a Y-Block?
The coolant expansion tank on my 1961 Y-Block (292 Sunliner) isn't repairable.

Y-Block expansion tanks seem kind of scarce but I'm finding some for Galaxie 390 engines. The Galaxie 390 tanks I'm looking at have the water pump bypass fitting. The radiator hose comes out the passenger side and the bolt holes are horizontal - all same as mine.

Can I use one of these 390 expansion tanks on my Y-Block?

No. The FYB mounting flange is a different design from the FE.

GOOGLE C1AE 8A080-A and you should come across one.

The black tank on the right (in your post) looks like a T-Bird FE tank.
The Galaxie 390 tanks I'm looking at have a flange like this.

Same place has another tank listed, that they say only fits early 406s. Sounds like they have some idea of how to tell them apart.

Something or somebody is hitting the peyote a little too hard. The one you picture is the FYB pattern, but what would they describe it as a HP FE application (which I never heard of).

BTW. The FORD and BIRD tanks were the same basically.

Google returned some references where Y-Block expansion tanks were referenced in discussions of FE engines and in Cobra forums. That had me wondering if Ford was doing some weird crossover applications back then.

In retrospect that wouldn't make sense because (I think) it'd require having a Y-block intake on top of FE heads (not stinking likely).
