oil filter kit?
I am thinking of putting an oil filter kit on my engine. I see that they sell a replacement valve cover with an oil filter boss but I have no idea how that would work.
When I remove my valve cover, there is nothing behind there that would feed the filter so apparently there is some gizmo in that cover that forces the oil into the filter.....(?) Anyone have one and can comment on how they work and their effectiveness? Thank you |

Re: oil filter kit?
They put a tube from where the oil comes into the front chamber that carries it to the filter and then it drains back into the chamber.

Re: oil filter kit?
we reviewed all the oil filter options a few years ago. The most effective is the one that replaces the valve cover and has the filter installed there. The delivery of the oil to the filter is under pressure so virtually all of the oil is filtered. There are adapters available to allow the filter to be vertical in the engine compartment which makes removing it a cleaner operation.

Re: oil filter kit?
IMG_20180126_150406716_HDR.jpg. My take on oil filter...Due to me having a header I chose to use Mikes oil filter valve cover then a typical oil filter adapter with copper tubing to a timing cover filter, with a Econoline van oil filter mount. gave me plenty of clearance.

Re: oil filter kit?
I use the Mikes-A-fodable kit. This replaces the side cover, with a filter mounting boss cast onto it. There is a tube provided in the kit, which slides into the exit of the oil supply to the valve lifter chamber, directing it through the filter, and then the filter exits back into the front chamber. This filters all the oil that is supplied into the chamber, and doesn't affect the oil supply either.
