Turns over slowly.
My friend has a 39 Dodge and I have a 40 LaSalle. We both have the same issue and since no other auto maker has FORUMS like Ford does I am hoping to find some help here.
The cars start easily when cold. After running for awhile, then parked and shut off, if they sit for 10 minutes or so they turn over so slowly they will not start. After they have cooled they start up normally once more. What causes this and what's the repair? I suspect there or Fords with similar issues. Thank you in advance.

Re: Turns over slowly.
John, by chance were your and your friend's engines recently rebuilt? Agree that making sure the starter, grounds, battery, etc. are the first things to check.

Bill's '39 is rebuilt and has always had that issue if I understand him correctly. Right now he has a blown head gasket and cannot get the head off so it isn't TOO recently rebuilt. I thought 15 head bolts was a lot (Model T) but that head on his '39 has 25 or more! I had a bad voltage regulator which I replaced on the LaSalle so today is a test run. It should not have made any difference in the slow turning of the engine but testing it yesterday in the barn the darned car refused to duplicate the slow turning over issue. Who knows.... I learn something new every day with these old cars but then with my memory I get to meet new people every day to!

Re: Turns over slowly.
i can tell you my troubles i had with my 36 pickup. it would crank slow. i had a good battery, but the connection on the starter switch was loose, i took it apart and cleaned it, put it back together, cranks over like it has 12 volts. check all your connections and make sure you have the right size cables. if your cables are to small your starter is not getting enough current
