Default 1940 Ford coupe wanted ad answered

I put an ad in the wanted section on Jan. 27th 2019 and I got two hits. One was just to much of a project with no engine or trans. For a few more dollars, lowdug37 sold me a very sweet mostly originally 50k original miles 5 window coupe. It runs great and looks great and I will be the 4th owner of the car. It is his avatar car and I feel very lucky to be the one to become the new owner. Doug was a great Ford Barn guy to buy the car from and I hope that I can always be friends with him. It is going to be fun going to cruise nights with the car.

Goody gumdrop! You hit a homerun. Now, as the 4th owner be sure to keep a running diary/account of your ownership of the car.

Thanks guys for the nice comments, I have enjoyed corresponding with 40 Ford owners in the past and all the advice they have helped me with. I will try and keep a good log on the car, unfortunately a nurse bought the car new and only the 3rd owner is alive and he didn't know her name. That car was bought new in Hartford and remained in the area all its life.

Really nice car. Don't be tempted to change motor, especially if the OEM engine. Leave it stock, maintain it and you will literally have a cool running engine usable on the highway. I think keeping the engine stock is going to become more and more popular in the future. Don't throw away anything.Take plenty of photos, maintain your history documentation log and make sure the brakes are in tip top shape.

Sweet! Is it a Business Coupe (auxiliary seats) or a Coupe (no auxiliary seats)?

Its a 5 window coupe with a bench seat that the back lifts up and locks open like a trunk lid. I have no plans on ever changing the engine even though I have a nice 100hp 1942 Merc engine. I'm just going to work on details on the car to just make it a little better.

What's neat about your car is that it has remained so original with natural aging over the years. That can never be duplicated. Plus, you don't have to pour tons of money into it to make it enjoyable. You also don't have to insure it to try and cover restoration costs.
It's affordable. Just be sure to replace frayed cloth wiring and watch you blind spots when driving.

And I like it too. I love that air cleaner with the decal. And wipe that grin off your face. Or not....

I couldn't agree more about not having to pour tons of money into the car; it cost a little more but I'm free to really enjoy the car. I love that air cleaner also. Your all right, it has all that neat patina which took 79 years to make. If I can remember correctly, the wiring looked real good but I know that its very old also so I will keep an eye out for bad spots. You guys know what's going on for sure.
