29 stake bed rear fenders?
I am new to this forum. I recently acquired a 1929 AA plateform stake bed truck. From what I've read online it is a 82-A Closed Cab with a 88-A/188-A Stake Bed. The truck is in pretty good shape, considering its age and I've fallen in love with it. I've started repairing some of the rust. The cowl under the tank had cancer on both driver and passenger sides which I have cut and patched. I have removed the doors and purchased patch panels from macs for both lower inner and outer sheetmetal. most of sheet metal on front of the truck has been removed for treatment.
I have become familiar with many of the old car swapmeets in central california and started hunting for parts. The list of parts Im looking for is getting bigger and bigger and lately I've started researching rear fenders for AA Trucks. Most of the posts I've found about rear fenders are on Express Trucks. From what I've been told the stake trucks with long running boards and rear fenders are rare. My AA has the long running boards with rear fenders, not dually rearend. Are the rear fenders on Express trucks the same as stake bed trucks? Where can I find replacement fenders, brackets, original or remanufactured for stake beds? My truck has a quarter of a fender left on the passenger side and nothing left on the driverside (part of skirt on driverside has been torn off from tire failure). My dad and brother have had Model A's for years. As kids my brother and I would help my dad with his 29 Phaeton. As years went by my job, family and other hobbies have taken my time. Now the old cars have come back to me, bringing taking me back to my childhood and once again bringing my Dad, Brother and I back together. |

That's a great looking truck, and it's hard to find them that good. You might contact Neil Wilson about AA truck parts. I don't have his phone number though.

Re: 29 stake bed rear fenders?
i am looking in the book Ford Model A Truck Owner by A.G. McMillan and the pictures do not show rear fenders on a stake bed truck. It just ends after the running boards. I believe the ones that I have seen dont' have the fenders either. I am not an AA expert but pretty sure you are good to go with what you have.

Couple more pictures of my 29 AA Stake bed.
One of the refreshed engine and the other was on the way home. |

Re: 29 stake bed rear fenders?
Although stakebeds with long running boards and fenders may be rare, they are around. Our May 1929 stakebed has the long running boards and fenders. I don't believe that there were any dual rear wheel AA's in 1928 or early 1929. The wheel design was such that it was not practical.

Just an observation on the refreshed motor picture. That looks like a solid front motor mount that I hear was not used past November 1928, Are you quite sure this is a 29?

here's a picture of the motor mount and the side of the truck that still has part of a fender.

Re: 29 stake bed rear fenders?
I'm having doubts it is a 29. I hope to see some numbers on the frame soon when I take the cab off.

Re: 29 stake bed rear fenders?
The timing cover is the early one made for the wide solid motor mount used in 1928 until November.

Re: 29 stake bed rear fenders?
According to the Ford Garage web site the 1928 and AA's had the same timing cover.
check it out the pictures. http://www.fordgarage.com/pages/timingcovers.htm |

Re: 29 stake bed rear fenders?
Elkhorne,
The front cross member in your AA is a replacement. It has a reinforcement riveted to the underside where the springs rest. This is a service replacement cross member. |
