Not to discourage the original poster from staying original, but I use a scissor jack from a modern car. In my opinion, it is the safest option and easier to store.

It's nice to have the original jack in the trunk of your original car, but if you really need to jack up your car.... to maybe change a flat, it would be best to leave that original jack right there in the trunk. Lin Stacy will tell you the same thing. As 40cpe said, get yourself a modern scissor jack, cus they are a lot easier to store, plus they don't leak out like a hydraulic jack can, or will in time, especially the ones coming into this country today

The jack posted above #3 is not a Ford jack but is close. The Ford jack has a flat handle receiver. There are other slight difference from the 37 to 40 jack.

Terry, You are, as usual, quite correct.
I have come to understand these jacks were made for many automotive companies with only slight variations. They were also made for stores like Coast to Coast, Montgomery ward, etc.
Many, like the one in post #3 are often thought to be 'correct" but are as you stated not.

The socket for the jack handle can be easily changed from round to flat by taking out the pivot pin. Mike, were there 2 makers of those jacks , auscolift and some other?
As others have said Lin Stacy is the go to guy for tools.

Ditto for the scissor jack ( Lube on the screw ) some wood block, 2 by 4 or 4 by 4.

Remember always chock block, I've got two, solid rubber, and hollow rubber ( I like an old brick). However the wheels on my avatar need the big ones.

Auscolift and Reyerson- Haynes.
They both look identical to one another sans the cast identification on the respective bodies. The Ausco is green, the RH is black.
