Stupid Question: what kind of tire gauge are you using
I would like to know what style of tire gauge you guys find most usable with our cars, esp. on tires with the metal stems that don't flex. The pencil-type gauges are hard to use on about any car old or new. are you guys using a digital or the kind with the extended hose or what.
also, is there a specific type of air chuck that fits our cars more easily? |

I do believe that different years may have had different valve stems so your question may be a better one than you think. I'm not sure myself as I have the valve stems that are used in today's tires. On my bike I have Schrader valve stems but no way to check pressure. I just use my hand to feel it.

I mined mine out of a landfill--- a friend of my father bought a country house, there was some model a stuff in the garage, out back I found the "landfill ", the garage had been cleaned and dumped there--- and I have bought others at garage sales. Keep looking

stupid question?
I well remember a school teacher by the name of Ray Gurran who told the class never be afraid to ask a question. For if you don't know betcha there will be others in the class that don't know either.

I use a little round gauge from the gas station.
Hard to find now, but they fit between the spokes & hub.

Re: Stupid Question: what kind of tire gauge are you using
I use the pencil shaped type, have not had any issues using it. As far as air chucks, some work some don't. I have found that even between the same brand, one might while the next not. Might be how deep the valve is setting in the core or length of the plunger in the chuck or a combination of the two.

Re: Stupid Question: what kind of tire gauge are you using
I, at one time, had a pencil type, but it had a spring behind it. It worked real well, because it did not require getting it just right to get an accurate measurement. You could just position for no leak, and the results were repeatable. Lost it, and have never been able to find another. Anyone know where I could acquire another?

Russ, look on Ebay for a Milton gauge.
I try to buy all Milton air fittings, but still have some poor quality China fittings also. As mentioned, some of the China air gauges don't work. |
