Default C4 Transmission Vent

There are two types of vents, tube and jiggle pin. Is one better than the other? The jiggle pin on the top of the tail shaft is a cleaner look. Although I have a later transmission, it has the vent tube. I would prefer to replace the tube with a jiggle pin.

Looking at my transmission, again, I see that the tube is attached to the top of the main case. Nevertheless, I'm thinking the tube can be removed, and a jiggle pin can take its place. The vent hole might have to be drilled and tapped for the jiggle pin, but the transmission has been removed and will soon be rebuilt, during which the jiggle vent can be installed.

Wrong, again. The vent tube is in the tail shaft, but very close to where the tail shaft attaches to the main case. Poor lighting and old eyes don't help.

The older units have the short tube above the band servo on the left side. The later ones have that cap vent at the front upper left area of the tail housing. The cap types allow for the over pressure to push the cap up for venting so the cap is a somewhat loose fit on the vent body but will still keep the crud out for the most part.

They likely changed it due to the possibility of crud getting into the tube. Here in south Texas we have the mud dauber type wasps and they like to make nests inside tubes like those early C4s had.
