The post of the Fisk tire reminded me of an original General Jumbo tire that I have. General Jumbo 14" and 15" wheels with fat "balloon" tires were introduced in the early 1930's for all makes of vehicles. Firestone did something similar. These were a kind of crossover from aviation influence. Quite radical when you consider most wheels were 17" and 18" 5:50s. The General Jumbo wheels are fairly common but I have never seen any original Jumbo tires, until I stumbled onto this one. I'm sure someone out there has a better example.
I don't know if this is a first issue pattern for a Jumbo or a latter production version, from some of the advertising it looks similar. Although I thought they had the word "balloon" script on the tire also. If you look at the absence of tread this guy got his moneys worth from this Jumbo tire.
Also shown photos of a narrow whitewall 70's version H-78 15 with the reuse of the Jumbo heritage logo. I thought that was kind of unique to use some of their past branding.
While on the subject of tires, the last photo I threw in is one of a 600X16"
tire with an unusual external patch. I've never seen that before, it may have been WWII fix just to get by.

I do have a set of the 14 inch wheels E/W hubcaps though....

When I bought my '38, the spare tire had a run-flat tube in it. Damn thing had a double bladder and must have weighed 25 lbs.
I just tried google and couldn't find any references to them. I seem to remember maybe Monkey Wards?

The sign does say 1932. It's just a very stylised 3. If you zoom in enough on the image you can make it out.

Vulcanizing bruised/cut tires was quite common in the 20's/30's
and was still done in dad's Royalite garage into the 60's.

Looks like yours had quite the bruise.

What are E/W hubcaps? Early wire Ford? Or? The guy who made the General Jumbo caps is from Ca. The Jumbo caps he made are the most accurate reproduction I have ever seen. I think Bill Perry , All Ford Parts of Campbell, Ca knows who made the repros. Or you might ask Bill McGrath of the Early Ford Store, San Dimas, Ca.

I recall tubes like that from the 1960s or 50s. Seems to me they were called the Lifeguard tube and made either by Goodyear or B.F. Goodrich.

Good find, Ralph, but that is a run-flat tire, mine was a run-flat tube that would fit within any tire. The appearance was like any other tube, but you could feel the inner (inner) tube, of a smaller diameter.

How did they fix that ?
2 separate air inlets or a solid inner tube like they use on offroadbikes ??

I know, not the one I was thinking of either. I remember the big heavy inner tube that weighed at least double what a normal tube did. I think "lifeguard " was Goodyear's name while B.F. Goodrich called theirs "sealomatic" tubes.

Just one valve stem, so the inside tube must have had a one-way valve?

My caps are the repos made by the guy you mention....

Here are pictures of another NOS, never mounted. US ROYAL. Tag fell off but mark is still there. Just more decoration in the "Station"
