New Flat motor, what carb?
I'm putting together another flathead motor for a 34 3W Coupe. Here is the parts...
59A, 40 over, Merc Crank, Schnieder 248 cam (mild). We want to go far, not fast. My last motor had 2 stromberg 97's on an Eddie Meyer intake. It ran well. This time I am leaning towards running one 97 on a stock intake. What would you recommend? |

I'd lean toward a ~400cfm 4-bbl.

Tim - that 4V carb idea is great - go with a WCFB on a Navarro intake. That would be stylin'. Get it running and bring it to Roamin' Angels show. The '94 would be a good choice as well, or get a Rochester 2GC.
PS Are you the Tim that Rumbleseat visited? I think I bought a Columbia from you years ago.

Can't beat a Rochester 2BBL on a Mercury intake. They work flawlessly and you can run an electric fuel pump with no regulator. Oh yea, they don't leak either. If the Mercury intake doesn't fit the 59a, speedway sells a adapter, 3 to 4 bolt that will let you use your stock manifold.
I have put about 20k on this 47, she's very dependable, gets about 17mpg with this set up. |

Wga, Yes, that was me you got the columbia from. I wont be at the Roamin Angels this year. We are planning a trip to a Car show/Vintage Camper show in WA state for that weekend. There is too much to do these days.... |

YUP! that 2GC on a merc intake would be my choice. Have the intake ports matched to the carb to get full advantage of the carb.

Funny thing .....that columbia originally came out of a '40 Coupe that I built. I was afraid to mess with it. Tim helped me pull a Ford 8 in. out of Pick-N-Pull.

Roger - That Columbia has a 3.56:1 gear ratio.

It seems to me it was raining that day at Pick n pull. We stayed dry by crawling under cars! Good times....
