When you use a 4 ply tire and see three layers of plies showing, it's time to buy new tires.

Such was the case with the 31 Town Sedan I bought in the 90's, so I could only test drive it one mile.

I was doing a high speed test to see how fast my 27 T touring would go. At the breakneck speed of 39 mph I had the tread fly off the left rear. I looked at the casing and it said war department synthetic rubber. I guess if it is over 70 years old it needs to be replaced. Go figure, it had no visible cracks. They just don't make anything to last anymore.
