Re: 80lb oil pump with a 50lb gauge ?
So when folks refer to an 80 psi pump, I guess they are referring to a higher flow pump since all other things being equal, a greater flow will result in greater pressure.

Re: 80lb oil pump with a 50lb gauge ?
After running a race car for 7 yeas and building a coupla engines, I can truthfully say. Too high of oi pressure can do damage to both the bearings and crankshaft. As Rinnieroadster once said 10lbs per thousand RPM, works just fine. Gramps

Re: 80lb oil pump with a 50lb gauge ?
These engines where made in the 30-50s. Low oil pressure systems. Heck model a 4 bangers had no positive oil pressure. Just change your oil sometimes.

No and yes, more flow doesn't mean more psi... flow vs tolerances/resistance. You can run a 1" hose of water down a hallway and create no pressure. Run the 1" hose into a 1/8" restrictive door then you create pressure. Sooo if bearing are good you don't need to rush oil through. But if bearing as subject you don't have to worry either. Anything above 0 will get you home. Last edited by Tinker; 01-29-2021 at 01:24 AM. |
