Default water outlet problem.

This might be a dumb question but I don't seem to be able to stop water from leaking from the water outlet on to of the head. Yesterday I broke the outlet casting trying to tighten and upon removal the gasket seemed to be blown out on one side. Should I be using more than one gasket? also I see the vendors sell a copper gasket for show cars, although I'm building this as a daily driver, should I switch to that gasket over the paper ones? All help appreciated. Harv

Many people use no gasket, but make sure the outlet mounting surface is dead on flat, then use a bit of sealer on the mating surface.

Never use a paper gasket, as they get wet and squeeze out of place, and that's when you crack the casting.

two ways to go no gasket with rtv or a copper gasket. paper is a no-no
surfaces need to be flat
i have never had an issue using the copper gaskets

I also use them on my cars cause it looks better

Harv, my experience is that anytime one sees a gasket advertised as "show-car" quality, the reality is that it was normal quality when the cars were new and lesser offerings are junk.

I've also never had a problem using a copper gasket, and use one on my car.

I think the paper gaskets are sold to increase sales of new water outlets.

Tom, do you use gasket sealer with the copper gasket? Harv.

I like the orange Permatex sealer with or without a thin gasket.

(There is no such thing as a dumb question)

I've broken ears torqueing with thick copper gaskets but never with no gasket. I file flat and use a thin film of Permatex.

This is what I use, without a gasket. Pretty hard to break this one if at all.

Chief taught me how to cut gaskets, with a small ball pein hammer, with a tap-tap-tap-tap. Minerva sported a Bill, special, gasket, cut from a brown paper bag, a careful smear of BLACK RTV, on both sides, & NEVER broke the neck or LEAKED, so THERE! "Maybe" a good subject for "MYTH-BUSTERS"??

That's a interesting outlet, the lower part hold a thermostat? If so
where would one find one. I haven't seen one like it in the suppliers
catalog like it.

Vintage Precision is correct. It does hold a thermostat (included), and you can use the 2 outlets on the rear for a Temp gauge and/or a hot water heater connection.

Trick product, but for me, not for $97.00 I'd rather spend the bucks for something "foolish", like a diamond sharpener for Greggs' (RIP) MACHETTE!
