in 50 years I have never seen this piece. What is its function, why is it needed?

They are spot welded to the inside of the rear fenders to reinforce the area around the splash apron.Most get rusted out due to water and mud accumulation.

Your welcome d.I didn’t know either.When I restored the rear fenders on my Tudor I fabricated my own.I guess that’s why I recognized them.
