Re: model a does not start
The first thing to check is to see if the fuel valve is turned on.

All of you who have forgotten to open the fuel valve when starting raise your hand... Yep, that is what I would check first. Then follow BruceW1's advice. "Enjoy the adventure"... Chap

Re: model a does not start
I recently tried to start a 31 that had sat for years and had similar issue. I had gas to the carb, but it would not start. I took the carburetor apart and cleaned it and found that the main jet was clogged with old fuel gunk. Once clean, it started. But now I have a starter problem. Good luck.

My spark check When cranking with the key/ignition on , most A's ammeters wiggle slightly from the points opening/closing. Early cars that have not been modified will not wiggle. The wiggle tells you the primary circuit (battery, ignition switch, points, points ground, and coil primary are OK. If that is OK remove a lead from a spark plug and space it 1/8 inch from the spark plug terminal. With the Ignition on hit the starter, can do this using the starter rod in the motor bay, and you should see a nice blue spark every 2 revs of the motor. |

Just had that, see above. It was a nearly new condenser. Old one in parts bits made it come back to life.

Be sure to clean the contacts on the points.
Use a tungsten point file or emery cloth.
