Default 12volt turnsignal switch?

1949 Mercury switching from 6v to 12v my turn signal switch has power going in nothing coming out, worked once thinking switch is bad. Do I need a 12v switch and if so where can I get a one ? thanks.

I'm no expert but electrically speaking a 6 volt switch is usually beefier than 12 volts because it requires higher current to do the same job. The flasher unit its self would need to be 12 volts.

Switch shouldn't care about voltage but flasher would.

Always keep in mind that the brakes are interrelated to the turn signals by design. If there is a problem with the brake light switch or the brake light connection in the turn signal switch, there can be problems with the turn signals too.

Changing from 6 to 12-volt effectively drops the system current requirements by 1/2 to do the same job so that is no problem with switches or wiring that are rated for the higher current flow of the 6-volt system. Load items like bulbs & motors are are a different story since they are affected directly by current flow and they will draw more current than they were designed to use at the higher system voltages. A six volt flasher unit would be buzzing on 12-volts.

Ok thanks. We thought the switch was bad because it had power going in but nothing coming out and it worked one time. So I was looking for a new switch I thought I had seen them before but could only find 12v switches. After cycling the switch several times it now is working must of had a bad contact.
