Re: NADA pricing accuracy? 41 pickup
[QUOTE=V8COOPMAN;1504775]'dawg......Whew, those pics show a lot of scary stuff. The type of wiring "expertise" shown in the under-dash shot indicates a rat's nest of electrical problems, if not a warning to have the local fire department number on speed-dial! The "ad-on" open-drive rear end "hack-job" leaves an awful lot to be desired. You'd have to ask "WHY" he replaced the original rear in the first place. The torched rear spring ends certainly indicates the level of understanding that the builder has about "safe practices". The half-assed radius rods are trash, along with the awful geometry designed into his "installation". The front spring is almost flat, and surely worn-out, as the rest of the front axle parts likely are, too. UNDERNEATH that truck is a total waste. From 50 feet, the sheet metal appears to be pretty close to a '41 pick-up, but have you run a magnet across all of that "pretty, painted" sheet metal? You may be in for some surprises. Snazzy paint jobs can cover many sins. And that fancy seat installation.......Heaven help ya if you ever crash into something solid....that seat is POORLY mounted! I would pass on THAT truck for any kind of serious money, and especially if you don't intend to tear it apart and rebuilt EVERYTHING from scratch. Seriously, you've gotta wonder WHY the guy has that truck for sale in the first place. He was obviously way over his head as a builder. DD
That seat installation reminds me of those threads where some really crazy stuff going on. My gosh, some guys should gently put down the wrench and walk away from the work bench - for good.

Re: NADA pricing accuracy? 41 pickup
Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't be very concerned about items like wiring or seats. Both can be removed and replace in short order. I would be much more concerned about the condition of the body, frame, etc. Bolt on items are not that big a deal to me, but they would have an impact on the pricing.

Re: NADA pricing accuracy? 41 pickup
Oldskool,
Not too original on the black '40 : rear should be all steel on the, floor-one piece. Not supposed to have any padding on doors or kick panels, just painted steel in truck color, dash instruments are after-market. This is kind of a resto-mod vehicle. Enjoy it. Milt K from Pa |

Re: NADA pricing accuracy? 41 pickup
I would buy for 5k or less. Probably 8500 is market? I bought my 47 7 years ago for 2800. Bought a 3/4 ton 39 for 2600 4 years ago. If these trucks have gone up that much it's time to buy more.

Re: NADA pricing accuracy? 41 pickup
I just want to take a moment and thank everyone who shared their insight, knowledge and opinions about this truck. It was very much appreciated.
I don't believe a deal can be reached at this time. We are just too far apart on price. But the search continues. Last edited by bigdawg; 07-28-2017 at 03:10 PM. Reason: stupid |

Re: NADA pricing accuracy? 41 pickup
buzz4041 MAY want to share the price.........or not! As you know, the final price is whatever you negotiate. The point here is that you should feel good that you did not succumb to that other over-priced truck. You had patience, and your continued patience and scrutiny will pay-off in the future, as REALLY nice examples are STILL out there. DD

Re: NADA pricing accuracy? 41 pickup
15K is about $7500 too much for that truck. It's a project no meatter how you look at it. Keep looking. As others have said be patient and the right truck at the right price will come along. I looked at my truck 3 years prior to buying it and the seller changed his mind about selling. Later he decided sell and I was in the right place at the right time.

Re: NADA pricing accuracy? 41 pickup
Saw a glimpse of American Pickers last nite, never watch the show anymore but was changing channels and saw a '39 Ford pickup so paused to watch.
Looked like a decent mostly original truck. They 'bartered' with the owner (of course it's all staged prices set ahead of time) and 'bought' it for $5500. I thought that was a fair price for the condition it was in. They claimed with some work and getting it driveable they could sell it for $13K. Probably not too out of line. Looked like a nice '39 Ford pickup if you are into that barrel grille. |
