Default How low the oil level in the gear box?

Hello everybody,

how low can be the oil level in the gearbox? I got the note only half full, otherwise it would leak too much. That's unconfirmed to suspect me.

Now I want to install the Mitchel Transmission Dipstick.

Just installed the Dipstick myself -- last week. Unfortuantly I cut the floor-board hole just a tad large, so now I have to secure the service panel with screws to keep it in place -- they give you a templet like for that cut

Gearbox, transmission? Fill to just below the filler hole.

Rear end. Fill to just under filler nut when you put your finger in.

We use 50/50 STP and 600w oil. Enjoy.

Fill it as the owners manual instructs.

As stated fill just to the bottom of the filler hole. But if it leaks too much there are other solutions. The rear shaft cover for transmissions without an O ring on the shaft, is available from parts suppliers. And the real deal oil seal which Mitchell also makes, lessens shifter shaft leakage into the bell housing.

Below the filler hole, the higher the better, but as long as there's enough oil in it for the gears to pick it up and distribute it around so everything gets lubricated.

The posts above have correctly specified what the level should
be when full. You asked how low it can be .In fact the gearbox can and often does run OK with about only 3/4 that amount of oil in it. This is shown by the simple fact that gearboxes often need topping up to bring them to the correct full level! It it leaks when full then check the seals - don't run it at a lower level simply to avoid oil leaks. The engine is the same ... it can run with the oil level at "L" but it should be topped up to "F"!

Hi,
I mounted the dip stick today. The rod had to be extended slightly to touch the oil level. (The finger eyelash flattened.)

Great idea!

It was asked by PM, how the dipstick was changed so that it is longer. I pressed the opening through which the index finger reaches, from the lower surface flatter. Therefore, the dipstick dives deeper into the oil level.

Why is the tube not bent/longer so it extends above the floorboard/mat/carpet? The mat/carpet and access panel would not have to be pulled up to check the level.
