One bulb reflectors

I was putting things back on the roadster this weekend, finishing up the radiator replacement. When I went to put the headlights back together, I found it hard to get the bulb aligned correctly in the reflector. The socket at the back of the reflector has 2 slots in it, and they run perpendicular to the notches in the reflector to align it with the bucket. Are these repops? They have been on the car since I got it, never took them apart before this. I had another set of reflectors and found them to have a single slot, aligned with the notches.

I don't think so..does it have an "H" stamped on it,...I believe it's stamped.

Do you have "fluted" lenses, with the early light S/W set-up? If so,...you also need the
correct socket assembly for the reflector.

Dudley, no stamped "H" on the relectors, just the number 1027 sceratched in the back. They are the fluted lenses.

are you saying that the bulb filaments run vertical and not horizontal?

Eric, that's how I figured out that something wasn't right. With the other pair of reflectors, the filaments are horizontal.

well, yeah, I would say that's quite a boo-boo, filament position has been discussed here before. maybe the reflectors were designed for Australia since everything is oriented differently there.

No,...and I can't get the "link" to print correctly,....new computer.
This is on the 6th page on the "search",....I still think it's the bulb receptacle.

Vern, I think they look OK for '28 single bulb reflectors.

well then it takes a different type of bulb, correct? I read the Service Bulletins about it but it remains confusing to me.

I helped to aim some headlamps a couple years ago and found the filaments were turned vertical instead of horizontal. As I recall, it was the socket that was off by 90*.

The very early 28's used a light switch and horn rod entirely different than the 2nd type light switch with a bail. The headlights were the same with no script. Both switches were only 3 position, left-park, center-off, right-on. They both used fluted lens, the very early with script a the top of the lens, the later with scrip at the bottom of the lens. They both used the same headlight blub, 21-3 candlepower. These type headlights and switches were used into early March 1929 with cars and trucks with fluted lens and tuna can tail-light. The earliest reflectors had not trough for the cork seal, the later had a trough for the cork seal; these were all one blub reflectors and the filaments were vertical on the blubs when installed.

If you happen to have the later 4 position light switch and wiring harness, you can modify the wiring to accomodate one bulb 28 headlights with 21-3 blubs.
Going to the headlights, cut off the red wire (high beam), use yellow for park and green for headlights on. The third position to the right on your horn rod becomes blank.
