Re: Coastal Maine summer tour anyone?
Well I'm 2 for 2 on the NE tours. The truck puked and then stopped running on the Vermont & NH tour In 2010. And I get this in 2012. It could have been worse.
I'll post more pics later today. I need to bring them down in size before i put them on PhotoBucket. |

Re: Coastal Maine summer tour anyone?
Barb and I joined the tour on Saturday in Augusta and the next 2 days were sure fun. Great people, weather, and touring. The tour ended yesterday in Freeport at the Goldenrod garage. Then everyone split for home. I twisted Barb's arm and made her agree to stay in Freeport for L L Bean and shopping. We left Freeport early this am and an hour down the road (I95) ran into torrential rain. After and hour of following the white line on the side of the road we could look ahead and see blue sky. Then before we got to it 2 bolts and 2 nuts fell to floor and the wipers stopped! Another 20 minutes and the rain stopped. That's what makes these trips an adventure. Then another "mishap" - the clock always lost about 2 minutes and hour - now it is up to 15 minutes lost per hour! Now ain't that a bummer ? Special thanks again to the Lessard's for their efforts. Our round trip mileage from home (western Ma) was just shy of 800 miles. Used less than a quart of oil and got 17.9 MPG. And she never ran hot.

Re: Coastal Maine summer tour anyone?
We spent the night in Freeport then headed to Boothbay for the whale watch. Some stayed in Freeport to shop.
Happy Ford runners. Making revolutions. Thar she blows!! More Lobster back on shore. A freind of Henry's suggested this stop. It was GOOD! Headed to the Gardiner/Augusta area from Boothbay and had a '40s / '50 moment. Also covered a total of 800 miles at about the same mpg. Had a great time and still can't believe they let us drive those bomber stock cars. Brian

We started with a breakfast meet at the A-1 Diner. This is the one that Guy Fieri visited for the show Diners, Drive ins and Dives. The food here is definitely good. Walt's Coupe at the A-1. We filled the house. As the waitresses said, we slammed them. Sorry ladies. I don't think I would want to park down there when it rains alot. A car show at Walt's place. Teaching a class on flathead oiling. Flathead heaven. Re: Coastal Maine summer tour anyone?
The visit to the Fantasy Speedway was a 2nd highlight. This is an official non-profit museum set up to preserved the dirt track racing done during the '40s through the '60s. This place takes you back in time. Check out www.fantasyspeedway.me There are good things happening here and they can use all the help they can get. Money or time. Since a lot of cars were out of commission when we were there a fun day was set up for us. They had 4 running cars. The best part about this is we got to take turns driving the track. These cars are a hoot.
The cars. 250" Chevy powered coupe 226" Ford flat 6 powered coupe. Engine by Walt. Falthead V8 Coupe demo car. This one does not see steady race duty. Engine by Walt. GMC powered Coupe. Not really sure what powered this Chevy. It did go well. Erica (a regular racer) strapping in Phil. Phil running some laps. Jeff getting his turn. Chuck S. in the seat. Me in the hot seat. Would you believe John M in a Chevy? Here's proof. Bottom line is everyone associated with the Fantasy Speedway went far out of their way to make us welcome. It was real good fun. Thanks to them for the fun afternoon. We left there tired dirty and very happy. Off to Belfast. Fantasy Speedway link: http://s962.photobucket.com/albums/a...sy%20Speedway/ |

Re: Coastal Maine summer tour anyone?
Monday morning in Belfast was absolutely perfect.
At the hotel getting ready to cruise to the Owls Head museum. Phil and Carole stopped for live lobster to take home. This is a good sized operation many lobster tanks here. Last edited by 41ford1; 08-30-2012 at 02:12 PM. |

Re: Coastal Maine summer tour anyone?
Here are a few of my pictures from the tour. Unfortunately, I dropped my camera at the beginning of the last day and broke it, so I had to use my smart phone to take pictures at the Owls Head Museum and the Goldenrod Garage. I need to figure out how to transfer those into my computer. Just click on the first picture and then keep clicking on next to see them full size.

I know I kinda went wild with the trolley museum pics. They are not old Folds but pretty cool anyway

Re: Coastal Maine summer tour anyone?
JM Thanks for sharing. Did the camera come alive? Any photos of the trailer?
Once I get everything uploaded, there's a video of you strapping in, going onto the racetrack, going around, and coming off, all the way through your reactions. -VeryTangled/Jeff |
