Alterations for 40 dash into a 39?

I am new to the site.... Any insight into installing a 40 dash in a 39 Deluxe? I have fairly nice 40 dash for my 39 project and realize that with difference in 39 verses 40 windshields, some modification will be needed. Looks like my choices are cutting off about 1 ½" on the windshield edge of the dash or fabricating a filler piece for the 1"+ gap from the A pillar. Or a combination of both. Curious what is commonly done in this case?
