Default 2nd Generation Gear Shift Housing

Not sure if this was even produced at the Ford Motor Company, but this has to do with the 2nd generation Gear Shift Housing. This is the housing where the Emergency hand brake handle is placed in front of the gear shift.

On the side where the Emergency hand brake lever arm enters the housing, on MOST of these housings, you will see a rounded shaped raised "rib" that is shaped in an upside down "U".

Now, here is the question...would any of you have in your collection, a 2nd generation housing WITHOUT the "U" shaped "rib" on the housing itself?

If so, I would like a photo of it.

Again, I really do not think it was manufactured but who knows.

Thanks.

Pluck

Hi Steve,
Here is a pic of the one I have, it doesn't quite look like a upside down U shaped rib to me, so you be the judge.
Regards Brian.

Thanks Brian.

That "raised" inverted "U" area is the reinforcement...The first ones made of this style did not have that raised area IF IN FACT they were even produced. I kind of doubt it.

No telling. Ford made a multitude of changes in the early production time frame. There may be some record of patterns at the Benson Ford Research Center. If something was made that was weak or perceived as such, they changed it pretty quick. Customer complaints were considered too. That's likely why it went to the 3rd gen type eventually.
I don't have anything that early though so I have no idea other than speculation.
