No keys
My son just purchased a 41 ford and the owner can't find the keys. What is the best way to fix this problem. Will the door lock have a number that a key can be made from and is the trunk lock the same as door and steering column. Will be in Hersey next month if I need help from a vendor to get a key made . Thanks !

Re: No keys
.Door key and ignition key are the same, unless someone has changed the llock cylinder. The glove box and trunk take the same key. However, I have found that the glove box lock only has 3 or 4 sets of tumblers and the trunk cylinder has 5 sets of tumblers. A key would have to be made from the trunk lock to work in both locks.

Re: No keys
If you can find a number on the door lock cylinder, I can punch out a new key for you. Hopefully the door and ignition cylinders will still be keyed the same. The number should look like FX123. I'll be at Hershey in space CCN60-61 You might also look for the original dealer invoice, if the seller still has it. The lock key codes were often on the bill of sale.

Re: No keys
there should be a number stamped on the locks, door, trunk and glove box if you can get the cylinders out of the door and trunk handles you should be able to take them to a GOOD lock smith, he should have the codes for them so he can cut you new keys, usually between $10 and $15

Re: No keys
The '41 glove box lock has the code stamped on the back side; should match the trunk lock unless someone has changed one or the other in the past (FY xxx). The code for the door lock is stamped on the barrell of the cylinder (FK xxx). There is a set screw on the door jamb side of the door that must be loosened to remove the door cylinder.
Once you have the codes, I can cut you a key from code for $5.00 per key on a correct period generic key. See my personal page for additional info. Regards, FlatHeadCoupe 9195595774 Last edited by FlatHeadCoupe; 09-21-2014 at 02:26 PM. |

Re: No keys
If the code is between 8000-9499, I can cut the key on a correct-period generic blank for $5.00 per key plus $1.00 shipping for one key.
See my personal page for additional info and send PM. |
