Default Head Gasket Question

Am I ok to use the fiber stock head gasket with a 3 5/16 piston. I laid it up on the block tonight and looks like it hangs over the bore some.

What is the part number for copper head gaskets to use.

NO they make gaskets for that bore. I use Best brand composite gaskets.

Anything above .080” overbore will require the use of “big bore” cylinder head gaskets. We stock them (in the BEST brand) in regular composite material or the copper clad gaskets. They’re both a bit more expensive than the regular gaskets but this is what you need.

I prefer to use the BEST brand for this application - I like the composite materials the best . . . until I have to pull the heads and clean the deck (especially if you're running studs) . . . Arrrggggghhhhh! But - it is what it is.

Other Options: On a recent race-style type build, I have experimented with Cometic MLS gaskets - very expensive, but have worked well for the last couple of years. If going this route, you really need the correct surface prep (deck surfaces) - so if you're not decking the block, you may have sealing issues with water.
