Spray on Chrome paint and Electroplating.
What is the difference on spraypainting the likes of bonnet motifs with chrome paint and having them chrome electroplated as per original.

Re: Spray on Chrome paint and Electroplating.
Paint is probably not as bright, and for sure not as durable.. Local guy will not do exterrior trim, only inside

Re: Spray on Chrome paint and Electroplating.
Paint will fade and wear away quickly.
Not durable, looks cheap and doesn't really look like chrome. |

Re: Spray on Chrome paint and Electroplating.
There are new "chrome" paints that look very much like the real thing but they require a special application. There are pretty good "chrome" powder coatings available that may be an option for you. Should be much cheaper than chrome too.

I have a set of headers powdered coated in a matte chrome finish that have been on the engine for almost 7 years and look as good as the day they were installed. In appearance they look like polished aluminum or stainless. There is no heat related “blueing” that you see on real chrome plated headers. |

Re: Spray on Chrome paint and Electroplating.
I was just considering doing the same thing with powder coat. Has anyone tried Eastwood’s extreme chrome?
The chrome paints look nice but are $$, the powder coat is cheap in comparison. |

Re: Spray on Chrome paint and Electroplating.
I used the Chrome Spray for front and rear bumpers of my '57 F-100. Once I had 3 or 4 coats on it I then clear coated it a couple times. It does not look like chrome, but it does clean it up nice. I knew what I was getting into though, as a friend of mine used it too. It's better than nothing, but you wouldn't want to use it if you're showing the car or truck.

Re: Spray on Chrome paint and Electroplating.
You're welcome.
I must say, that I have Not tried any of these products myself, so I don't have any personal knowledge of how well any of those products work. I'm sure one would have to follow the directions exactly, and as with anything, practice first on something that don't have to be perfect. Can any FordBarners add any personal info on any of the do-it-yourself chrome products out there ? .

Re: Spray on Chrome paint and Electroplating.
When i think 'chrome' paint, i remember those spraycans of silver paint we don't see anymore.
Silver nitrate deposition liquids appear to exist but as you've probably noticed, after a decade or 2 any protective coating have let it oxidize and crumble away. Real chrome is better. For what it's worth... i put chrome vinyl wrap on bumpers, nobody noticed.

Re: Spray on Chrome paint and Electroplating.
Good thing roads are empty. I have the advantage of driving only in summer when there’s 23 to 24 hours of daylight. Only bad thing is when I drive in a late fall night and it gets dark around 10 o’clock.
