The Simple Green trick (half gallon and water) removed all the water pump grease from the cooling system and I'm letting the Thermocure after driving a bit sit over night. The A is running at 160......now. A great combo for the old radiator that was running 190.

Several here suggested Simple Green foe whitewall cleaner. It works quite well. I also mixed it up in a spray bottle and did the undercarriage. Waited a few minutes and sprayed vigorously with the garden hose and no scrubbing.

The stuff is great.......and not bad for the environment or me! I've been exposed to enough bad chemicals in my 66 years.....and who'd a thought you could put it in an old cars radiator? Thanks guys for the tip as always.

I use a cup of SG in the rad. Sounds like bigd used a half gallon. I don't know what Thermocure is.

It used to be "the Shadow knows" but now it's "Google knows"! Thermocure is a cooling system cleaner made by Evaporust, and it's available at Walmart.

I understand that Rust 911 also makes a cooling system cleaner. It would be interesting to compare the two.

I use Simple Green too to clean a lot of stuff. Good product.

I used a half gallon of Simple Green as the remainder is water and dilutes it's grease cutting ability. I would have used a whole gallon but the grease in the cooling system wasn't bad enough to clog up the radiator like some systems get. Over zealous lubrication of the back waterpump assembly by previous owners can result in grease bleeding into the water jacket and into the radiators causing poor flow. I just put two gallons or more of water and the half gallon of Simple Green and ran the car for about 30 minutes and then drained it while hot. You could see the grease in the solution that the SG got out. Any grease will hinder the Thermocare's ability to attack the iron oxide (rust) in the cooling system so it's crucial you de-grease it before adding the Thermocure. Flush the system of the SG (Simple Green) with water and then add the Thermocure and water, whatever capacity your system holds, and run the car. I'm leaving it in a few days before draining it. DO NOT leave it in during freezes as it won't protect your engine from damage due to water expansion. Thermocure will turn any rust, scale to a liquid. It will not leave chunks or flakes of rust that could clog your radiator. It basically melts the rust, does not harm gaskets, metal, brass, rubber. They say you can lave it in for a few days, which is what I'm doing. The duration would depend on the rust severity you have. Like I said, my temp went down while I was doing the treatment from around 180-90 to 160.
