One of the guys in our club ended up having that same type of problem. A weak spring on the points arm.

When cracked metal is heated, the cracks open up more !
Someone else had a miss fire here, s(he) removed the intake manifold and a chunk fell out. S(he) replaced the manifold and all was good!
