I have to agree it's ugly as sin. But that's part of it's charm. Wonder how fast she'd go?

Agreed it's ugly. Looks like the North end of a South bound cow.
But it has a strange Cool factor to it, and being the only one left
on earth puts it in a class of its own.
I'm less then 200 miles away, and am thinking about a road trip to see it.

Well let's see, it weighs almost TWICE what a Ford coupe weighs, and it has the aerodynamics of a medium-sized barn, and I'm sure the rear end ratio starts with at least a number 4, or maybe even a 5. Odds are that you won't be gettin' very many speeding citations! Cool ol' bus, though!! DD

looks like it should have train bogies on it....I thought it was a rail-car at first glance.

My big fear is the aluminum not having any protection thus becoming what they call "alkaseltzer" effect!!!! Even being stored in doors

Hmmmm......do ya recon that maybe we should think twice (fearing the "Alkaseltzer effect") before taking any future rides on Ford Trimotors, B-17s and B-24? I'd venture to say that their exterior aluminum skins are (for the most part) originals to the airframes and have certainly gone through much more stressful conditions than that ol' city bus (with paint protection) ever did! Aberdeen sd is just at the edge of the dry west. another 100 miles west and vehicles preserve very well. but still, its in a better environment than much of the country. cool thing, but rare and valuable dont always go hand in hand, the supply and demand theory works better

My first thought was the wood, not the metal. I wonder the amount of wood framing there is. At least that is the norm of the time.

Its a big project no doubt for anyone.

First flying aircraft go through Wwwaaayyyy more examination and inspections than a 1938 Bus EVER did, the care and maintainence for such needs no more explaination, second I watched a car restoration program a while back about a 1950's ferrari that had been stripped of its paint sometime in the mid 60's and left in a garage (just like this's bus) and the WHOLE body had to be remade due to the degradation of the aluminum I.e (alkaseltzer effect). So......what would make that same problem NON Existsnt here???? And that was 1950's technology aluminum which I'm sure metalegry and technology were better mixes than 1930's aluminum
