Deltran Battery Tender Ring Terminal Error?

I recently replaced my battery and connected my ring terminals with harness for charging. Hooked up to the Deltan charger and left it on overnight. You would imagine my surprise in the morning when I found that the charger was blinking red because I had hooked up my ring harness backwards. Now this ring harness is a Deltran 6 volt charger is an old one because the terminals are within a small plastic receptacle that is square on one side and pointed on the other. The square side from the charger is the positive and the pointed side the negative. However the receptacle on the battery side is just the opposite. The black ring end is positive(square) and the red ring end is negative(pointed). I reversed the wires on the battery side and charged the battery successfully. Has anyone else seen this contradiction or was it just a manufacturing defect?

Maybe the battery has its polarity reversed? As I understand what the OP wrote, the battery is the only new item in the mix, and I presume the charger and its cables all worked correctly with the previous battery?

Seems like it would be easy for the manufacturer to paint one terminal red and the other one black, or use red and black wires. You could also paint the wires yourself. At least once you put them on right, you don't have to deal with it again.

We have had three Deltran 6volt units that were backwards to what they indicated. Changed the little harness wires and it worked fine.

Thanks Bob, I thought that this must be a "China" fopa. But then again Deltran should be more cognisant of their sub-contractors work....
