Broken wheel spoke
I put on my spare tire and found a broken spoke. Can it be repaired?

Re: Broken wheel spoke
Depends on what you mean broken, where?
I have replaced spokes and welded at the end But never tried to weld in the middle. I think the spokes are forged or stamped steel. Whatever, they weld "funny" I have reattached at the rim end by mig; as usual tig is likely better |

Re: Broken wheel spoke
Drill a hole in the rim, make sure the spoke is straight, then weld the spoke through the hole you drilled.
When it cools, it will pull the spoke tight. |

The spoke has a clean break near the middle. I can put the spoke back together and only a hair line crack shows but it comes apart again when driving. Can a spoke be replaced? I think that I will purchase a new tire and put the broken wheel back to being a spare tire. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: Broken wheel spoke
Clamp the spoke in a small piece of angle iron to hold it straight while you weld it.

Re: Broken wheel spoke
I have welded spokes in the middle with a tig and then dress down the weld. Works good.JB

Re: Broken wheel spoke
My choice would be oxy-acetyline (spelling?) as I have no tig. Eliminates a brittle weld also. Recheck trueness of the wheel after welding, you may have to shrink an opposing spoke to compensate.
