No One Makes Seat Covers so I'll Make My Own!
OK, I can do this (think positive). However, I do have one question since not even the techs at LeBaron Bonney can answer the question. How do you attach the cover to the backrest of a 1930 coupe seat? Now we're talking seat cover here not upholstery. Does anyone out there have or has seen how a 1950's set of seat covers ala say JC Whitney was designed to fit over the existing upholstery of a coupe seat?

Congradulations on breaking the the unbreakable connections with the suppliers!
1)I would look for a flexible plastic and make large hooks that could be sewn into the covers. The hooks would go over the back of the seat. 2)You have some leeway if you just want to attach a short panel to create an envelope that the top of the seat goes in. Terry |

Since the original covers are nailed on to the frame work you'll have to get creative to make the cover stay in place. Maybe gluing velcro strips on the frame work or using staples or something you can remove. Hopefully some of the trim guys will chime in.

How about sewing some elastic straps to the covers, then using safety pins to hold the elastic straps. The reason for the elastic straps is so you have some give as you sit in the seat and it pulls down. When you get out, it will then pull back up.

Good for you making your own covers! All good ideas above, screws with trim washers I would add. If your not trying to protect an original cover you will need to get creative! Good luck and post some pictures :-)

Re: No One Makes Seat Covers so I'll Make My Own!
I had a set of seat covers made for my 29 CCPU out of a old set of GI blankets. Wanted something to cover the leather seats as my dog loves to ride with me. So I had this great gal in our little town who makes sofa covers do it. At first she said no, I don't do vehicles. But when she came out and saw "Henry" her eye lit up and she said "I would love to do it" She did an fantastic job and she used elastic around edges. They fit perfect and look like I just go back from WWll........LOL

If the seat lifts out, sew a gusset around an opening the hooks can go through and elastic straps to keep thing tight on the upper. Do the bottom like a fitted sheet, elastic around the corner edges on the bottom.

We made our seat covers and use them on trips. We attach them just as Tom said and they work great. They save the wool under it and it's a lot cooler. JB
