Default Lower radiator hoses

The lower right hand hose has a slight leak - and does not stop after a
half turn of the hose clamp.
The lower radiator hoses that are available -the photo is a Gates version,
are cut so that there is material on one side, and at 180 degrees there is
not as much material to insert over the radiator fitting. Sorry, I could not get a clear shot from below.
What hose(s) are available that allow more material?
I've noticed this on a few hoses from NAPA, and a Ford parts dealer as well. The NAPA hoses were worst than the Gates. Tried switching the ends, etc. I've decided to go with the worm gear drive hose clamps and scrap the stock type.

In your picture the clamps dont look to be positioned proper .the rad. clamp looks to be back too far. the pump end of hose is not on pump far enough I would not use those clamps unless you are having car point judged SUNSHINE

It almost looks like your hose is a bit short. Before taking it apart, I would double up on the clamps if you have enough room. And see if the leak stops

If the hoses are correct it looks like the radiator is to low or the engine is to high. Also there are two mounting holes in some radiators, maybe the radiator is to far forward. G.M.

I agree with GM. That looks like a lot of curve for a semi straight hose application.

Find a longer hose the same I.d.and cut it to the length you need. Might be a little tough to get on if you make it too long .There was always an offset on the bottom hoses from the late 40's to mid 50's .I have run across this several times .Get some decent clamps also .Jmo

Just put on new lower radiator hoses on my 53 vic, they measure 7 inches long, tried some Gates they were 5 1/2 inches. Baxter Ford in Lawrence, Ks has the right length. 785 842 9256.

You might get by if you come off the radiator a 1/2 inch. That will give you more hose on the pump. Also move the radiator clamp closer to the radiator which will be at the end of the hose. If this does not work, call Baxter. Charles

I had a similar situation with my '36. The water inlets were corroded so I replaced them with good inlets from a '35.I thought 35's and 36's were the same. They're not.Two different angles.

I always put some white lithium grease on the metal and inside portion of the hose for a better water seal and the hoses come off easier when you have to remove them.

On my 37 panel, 60HP Radiator, 8 BA , I went to napa and matched to a hose with close bends. worked great. It almost looks about the same as you have with yours. On the Radiator outlet I had to add a pc of straight hose to fit inside the new hose due to it being smaller. The hose was 1 1/2 both ends, Napa 9183. Hope it helps Ray
