Fuel gauge sender mount holes
Has anyone else experienced the sender mounting holes not lining up with those in the tank?? I had to significantly remanufacture a new one to mount it.

Re: Fuel gauge sender mount holes
The reproduction senders have a different hole spacing than the originals. Also, I think the reproduction tanks are different. You have to make an adapter or modify them to fit.

Re: Fuel gauge sender mount holes
Makes sealing the sender to the tank challenging when holes don’t match the tank!

Re: Fuel gauge sender mount holes
Wouldn't a good gasket solve the problem. Plus, you could ""fill' the OEM tank holes with set screws and lock them in place with a center punch dimple.

Re: Fuel gauge sender mount holes
Drakes tank repro for my '47 has wide sender unit mounting collar that offers multiple sets of screw holes for various year cars (think '36 thru "48 ?). My original '47 sender unit matched a certain set of screw holes but the under-body of the original sender unit doesn't fit down thru their hole - must modify sender unit.
Drakes screw mounting holes do not go thru into the tank chamber, which I personally think is better than drilling holes all the way thru to the inside of the tank. Be sure to use gas resistant setting caulk. |
