What's required to convert 12v CB to 6v
What piece of equipment must I purchase to be able to use a 12 volt CB radio in my 6 volt positive ground Vicky?
Thanks! Bill |

Something like this:
https://www.brattons.com/six-to-twel...r-2-5-amp.html Check the maximum amps, though. .

I got mine on eBay. You may find that they work better with an alternator than a generator, but should work okay with either.
Click Here for Step Up Power Supply Converter Regulator Module Good luck, Ken

Be careful of the low cost ones. When you ground the antenna, it messes things up.

You need to determine if the case of the radio is connected to the neg of the radios power cord. If it is, you either have to change the ground of the car to neg ground or isolate the radio case and the mounting from the car.

Tom Endy's way is the way to go. Our club members use the same thing and there is no issue. Tom, what do you use for a screen with your back-up camera, and where is it mounted?

Re: What's required to convert 12v CB to 6v
Ted,
Mine has two wires coming out of it that are color-coded for Positive and Negative. You just wire it in as it should be. As Mike said, you need to check to see if your CB is case-grounded. Most of them are. If so, you need to be absolutely sure that it is insulated and there is no risk that you are going to bump something metal against both the CB and the body at the same time. If you are electronics savvy, you may be able to open the CB and disconnect the case ground. Ken

Re: What's required to convert 12v CB to 6v
For a CB you need to have the chassis at ground. Make sure your converter maintains chassis ground. If you try to float the antenna ground your range will be reduced to hollering distance.

Thanks, I don't CB anymore, that was in another lifetime. I gave it up when the trucker's started using the f word and the hookers were calling for customers at the truck stops. I will want to charge my cell phone and maybe something small like that. Ted |

Oh, I gave it up because I had two very young daughters at the time, early 80's.
