Fuel pump just as a pass thru
What’s a safe way to just use .org, fp as a pass thru using a electric pump??
Do you need to remove the check valves ?? Replace dia.with a plate ?.

Re: Fuel pump just as a pass thru
Just leave it stock. I have used boost pumps running thru the stock pumps on many cars.

Ditto on leave it stock. That way, if the electric fuel pump fails, you get home. Just be sure to use an electric fuel pump that does not block flow when it is off. I use Mr. Gasket 42S because it puts out only 3 psi which won't flood a flathead. Mine is 12 volt. Not sure if you can get it for 6 volts.

That's fine until a diaphragm splits and you fill the crankcase up with fuel.

Re: Fuel pump just as a pass thru
Vic Piano did the conversion and detailed it in his thread entitled "What I did on my lunch hour". The problem is that only the most recent 20 pages of that thread are archived and available. He did the conversion prior to about 2015 and we can't read back beyond that time.

Re: Fuel pump just as a pass thru
Good point. But that is a risk that is avoided by rebuilding the pump with a kit using ethanol resistant materials, and an electric pump that puts out less pressure than a stock fuel pump - which is about 4 psi.

Re: Fuel pump just as a pass thru
Vic did one as mentioned. The concept is pretty easy. Remove either the fuel pump rod or the lever action unit in the fuel pump, then replace the diaphragm with a tin plate.
I don't like the sound of a electric pump so I use a mechanical. I'm not saying doing it either way. But if the motor dies for some reason the mechanical pump stops. Electric will keep pumping gas even if the motor is upside down. So now we are into enrsa setups... . |
