Default 49 ford diff dimensions for rebuild.

Our 49 coupe is in the shop at present and we would like to rebuild a diff for it while its away. We have a 54 diff here , are they the same? We have a new ring and pinion for the 49 diff . So basically can we rebuild the 54 diff and swap it in later?
