Paint dupont centari

Centari acrylic enamel (Pitch black), is no longer being made and I need to do some touch-up. Anyone know a close substitute?

Tom. Try an automotive paint store.If it's a stock color they may be able to mix some for you.Believe it or not,some black colors are not really black.They have toners added and could be blue or red.That's why G.M,Ford,Mopar etc.are all different.

With the new scanners they have to match colors if you take a part that is painted they should be able to match it. I think Centari was one of the best paints when used with a hardener. You could also contact DuPont and they could give a formula for another DuPont type paint that would match if Centari is not available. They can also search their stock and see if there may be some sitting around. I found 9 gallons of their Black Diamond Laquer they wanted to get rid of for if I remember $20.00 a gallon. DuPont automotive paints was sold a few months ago to Carlisle Corp who also owns Dunkin Donuts. G.M.

I have a quart and 1/2 of it that I will never use. I will send it to you and if you can use it (if it's good)just pay me what you think is fair. It is old, but the full can has never been open.

Are you sure not available?? I just had my 35 Coupe painted with that! A perfect flawless job - really stunning Black! I will ask my painter where he get s his supply.

That's what makes this hobby great. I have a set of 41 Ford front fenders coming from about 5 states away and they are being delivered by a friend of a friend kind of deal.
And yes Dupont Centari is still available. Just depends on the store I think as one near me has it and one that a friend manages doesn't.
It is also listed under Dupont fleet colors I believe.

Flatheadfan, I can't get Centari on Long Island any longer but I asked my paint guy what he recommends and he gave me Dupont Nason 414-1000 machinery and equipment acrylic black enamel. He said if I liked Centari that I would like this. It might be a state thing. I painted a chassis on a 95 degree day and that paint looked like porcelain, great stuff.

Well, I had some touch up done on my 40 last year and we bought it. I had been told previously that it was no longer available but it seems to still be available here.

I am disappointed to hear that Centari will not be available in the future. I have over half of my 39 PU painted and will need to purchase more paint to finish it. I was in the auto body business for 25 years and we always said that black is black. The only difference would be that some car manufacturers would add different metallics to spice up the black, but in general straight black was black. When we repaired a black car, we painted it in what ever brand paint that the shop was using and never had a matching problem. If you clear coat the black then you will have more depth and shine, but black is still black

Flathead Fan, Arrow automotive Supply in Flint, MI 810-238-3108 still stocks it. It's an old mom & pop automotive parts store with its own paint dept. great people to deal with.
