The body bolts would have to be loose to cause a thud.. the rubber helps prevent squeaks ..

Body blocks installed without rubber but tightened properly will not thud..IMO

Body blocks are solid but I'm sure she'll need to be lifted to check that. I'll get those pads anyway to have them on hand.

Bolt or bolts not tight or missing, be my guess.

Thud caused by a loose nut behind the steering wheel?
I know I resemble this remark! . Jeff

I thought too that it could be operator headspace but....checked all the stupid reasons that could occur from the ignorance of the owner/operator.

I didn't hear anything alarming and thudish when I drove it last..
I agree with Mitch about barking up the tree about replacing the body shims. You have no idea how difficult that can be with a together car that has all fenders, aprons, etc bolted together.

Gina and I may drive the 40 convert up to Brussels tomorrow and meet you for lunch, and I'll test drive Sarah. ( did I say test drive another guys girl ?)
Wow!

OK back to reality.... stop hitting all the holes and bumps in the road.
It's still a Model A you know that is going to have some rattles and stuff.
It helps to keep you awake while driving!

Thanks Mitch for the input and Ed... maybe see you tomorrow.

See ya tomorrow Larry and....I did find the problem, I think. Did I solve the problem, not entirely!!! I did have loose body block bolts as Mitch suggested but I could only tighten them so much since I can't get the wrench on the bolt top and...I have two back body blocks missing, one on each side, farthest back. I try to avoid potholes or dips as much as I can, if I lived in StL the thudding would only come bullets, some of the thudding has subsided though but not all.

I'm sure that will all be corrected next Winter when you do an off the frame total restoration so she can become a show car and I can compete with Mitch!!!!!

They are all OK Paul, replaced all shocks, arms and links just last month. Taking her out today, I'll see if tightening the block bolts helped a bit. I'm having lunch with the Thud Specialist. The thud has always been there, just seems it is far more noticeable now.
